For the past 5 years I been involved in short films and other projects in independent filmmaking. Taking part in making this film has been the most ambitious project yet in Make-up, FX, and of course ...Props!

Throughout this past year and half we been shooting this film on and off, I accumalated and created multiple props and detailing many prop weapons within the film. Soon enough you will get to see our hard work, once the film is released in the fall.

Take a cheap bb gun pistol, add a little black and silver metallic acrylic and a little clear nail polish and you have a convincing looking gun for film.

Pistol Prop Other side with Magazine

Painted with silver metallic pain to give weathered metal detailing on some parts of the gun. As you can see I even did some metallic painting on the magazine as well. This will give a convincing looking gun prop on screen from a certain distance.

Pistol Prop Slide

Pistol Prop Slide

With the slide pulled back you can see I did paint the barrel with metallic silver for a metal finish.

Took an airsoft gun and textured it with a scrathed up and weathered metal look to help display a post apocolyptic feel of the film. Using empty shotgun shells for the ammo holster, added more convincing realism.

You can see the weathered metal look on the gun, look of scratched metal, and empty shotshells I reclosed to look like real shells for the scenes in the film.

Shotgun Detail Up-Close

Shotgun Detail Up-Close

I painter the slider a metallic silver to give a look like a real shotgun as it was originally just black plastic. Giving an illusion of realism.

This gun prop was far more of a realistic step. A metal bb gun pistol that is basically a replica of the 1911. I used the same texturing detail of weathering mainly to hide the large label on the side creating a convincing looking 1911 pistol on film.

Used the same painting technique of black acrylic, with scratch detailing with silver metallic in multiple layers and a couple protective layers of clear nail polish (Yes! you heard me right, Nail polish!)

Xavier (Joel Cordial) confronts his former nemesis Gnar (Gregory Picklesimer)

During filming I managed to take some junk I was saving (one mans junk is another prop makers materials) and make a frighteningly convincing pipe bomb.  Which you will get to see with a surprisingly convincing practical explosion effect later in the film.
